18A – Create a Customer Avatar
What I am creating is more of a service that restaurants will use instead of something that is sold to the public, so instead I am going to describe who this service would appeal to.
My customer avatar is a woman in her mid-30s who currently lives in Utah, which is also known for having the highest community service from its residents of all the states. She is currently working with the YMCA, a non-profit organization, to help cure child hood obesity. She has one child herself and hopes to be able to raise him in a healthy way. Her and her husband maintain a healthy lifestyle, eating right and regularly exercising.
She has been at her job for a few years and as a result has an influential say in company decisions. Although she works at a non-profit, her husband is a successful banker; howwever, they are humble with their money, only spending on necessities and donate every month to charities. As a result of this, she drives a Volkswagen Passat and her husband drives a Hyundai and they have a medium sized house in the suburbs.
She has a healthy sense of humor, but can be serious at times and is upset by many of the injustices she sees in the world. She is very liberal in her views and believes everyone has the right to do what makes them happy. She hopes to instill many of her core values on her son and anyone who is willing to listen.
What do I have in common: My avatar and I both want to be able to help the world and fix the things that bother us about it. As of right now, I am a college student so I don't have a lot of spending money, but I one day hope to be successful and when/if I am I want to be able to keep some money and donate the rest.
Is this a coincidence: I personally don't think its a coincidence, I am building a service for something I know I would be a consumer for, so I think it is only natural to model some of my avatar’s beliefs after my own. I did however change some thing, for example I do not want to work in non-profit when I am older and I also have hopes of living either on the west coast or in the northeast.

I thought that you did a great job on your avatar assignment. I like that you included facts like Utah has the highest community service from its residents. That fact could even help you decide where to begin your idea, in a state that helps others. I also think that there for most people a connection between our avatars and us. These ideas are our ideas and we want to see a bit of ourselves in it.
ReplyDeleteI'm thoroughly impressed by the level of description that your post goes into. You've considered your customer avatar's age, career, car, home location, and values. Even more than that, you've considered her husband's car, values, etc. This level of detail will certainly allow you to be more prepared to recognize customer traits if/when you do go into entrepreneurial business ventures. Furthermore, I believe that it's interesting how so many individuals created products/services that would most likely be consumed by customer avatars who they themselves share similarities with. That aspect of this assignment was certainly surprising.
ReplyDeleteYou were very descriptive in this post. I was really able to get a feel for the customer you are trying to reach. By telling us about her personality and why she wants to be involved with community service, you showed us who your customer was instead of just telling is. Although some general facts and necessary and set the scene, they do not give us a feel for the person as a whole. You did a good job of mixing the two. I was also similar to my customer. I think that this is because we are the person who thought of the venture so we must be something who would participate in it.
