19A – Idea Napkin No. 2
You Hi, my name is Elizabeth Barbe. After speaking to many of the people I am closest to, I realized how I am looked at through other people. Some of my greatest talents include my stubbornness and my empathy. My stubbornness allows me to take issues head on and do my best to solve them and my empathy helps me to work closely with others and also always reminds me what my goals is, to make and impact on people’s lives.
What are you offering to customers? My service hasn't changed from what it was before. I am offering a service that restaurants can use to deliver their leftovers to homeless shelters. I am solving people’s unmet needs because I am offering homeless shelters another source of food which in turn can help those that. are hungry. In turn, I am helping businesses, specifically restaurants, because they're leftovers will no longer go to waste but instead to a good cause.Using my service can help promote restaurants images by showing they are actively trying to help the community. This will be the main motivating factor for restaurants to use my service.
Who are you offering it to? I am offering my service to restaurants, particularly ones that take on the value of corporate social responsibility. Corporate social responsibility is a concept that companies look after society and not just themselves. One popular company that abides by this is Toms. For every shoes a consumer buys, Toms donates a pair. However, my service can be offered to more restaurants, but I thought ones that were focused on giving back to the community would be more likely to use it. I also believe that companies that value corporate social responsibility have customers that value that and if a restaurant were to start using my service then customers would feel better about eating there and go more often. I have also decided to first start off with smaller restaurants instead of chains because I feel like smaller institutions that are less corporatized are more likely to give back.
Why do they care? This is a solution essentially kills two birds with one stone by helping a restaurant give back as well as improve their image. A restaurant can promote that they are using my service which will give them a more positive view by the community and make more people want to spend their money there. These days, a lot of places look for a cause to rally behind, whether it be Black Lives Matter, LGBQT rights, etc., this gives a restaurant a cause that is there own. It allows the restaurant business to own up to and fix their mistakes, all the while rallying behind the World Hunger cause.
What are your core competencies? From the research I have done, i have only found one competitor and that is Feeding Forward. What sets my idea apart from this organization and others is that I plan to create a data base that matches restaurants to the nearest homeless shelter so that way the process is as most efficient as possible. Another differentiating facor is that Feeding Forward is not well known, it was created in California and has not grown to other states. My goal would be to grow my business nationwide.
Paragraph iLike my last idea napkin, I still think that the idea of having restaurants and food banks/homeless shelters come together is a viable option and is a good way to start solving the world hunger issues. I have notices some faults in my plan and that would be that the money to provide the cars for my skies and the workers wouldst have to come out of my own pocket unless i received money from the government due to my non-profit status. I do still think that initially asking restaurants for their leftovers may require some negotiating, but I don't think it'll be as difficult as I thought because I think my organizations nowadays are looking for a cause to help solve
Feedback:
- I added more personable personality traits instead of resume traits: This was a personal critique of my own and I did it because I thought it needed a more personal touch. The service I am creating is a detachment of myself and my personality and I feel like it becomes more marketable when I make myself more open.
- I turned my service into a cause: I read that many companies are often looking for a cause to try to help solve because it helps company name, so I descried my service as a cause they could rally behind and use as a marketing point.
- I researched competitors more: I found a competitor that is currently doing what I want to do later on, but their business plan is different than mine and I think ultimately they wont overlap too much
I, like you, did not have a lot to change from one idea napkin to the other. But I did like that you added more personality traits instead of resume traits. In college we tend to use a lot of resume traits to describe ourselves, but it is also nice to reflect our personality traits. Turning your service into a cause is also a great idea because you can get people to help your cause and it makes it more personal and gives you motivation to continue with your idea.
ReplyDeleteHey Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteI think that the alterations you made were very beneficial, yet like you I kept much of my idea napkin the same as it was. My last idea napkin didn't have many critiques in the comment section so I wasn't able to use those to make a lot of changes. I'm thankful that we had the "secret sauce" assignment because it definitely allowed us to learn a little bit more about our own unique human capital and made this assignment easier.
Great post!
Elizabeth, I think adding the personal traits was a great idea. It really helped show that you are invested in this venture. I was able to get a feel for how passionate you are. I think this is a good quality to have to show potential buyers or investors. I also think that describing it as a cause was a good change as well. This would convince businesses to help you more because they can get a benefit from it and feel good about it. I think that you should expand on this more. Instead of comparing it to other established philanthropies explain why yours is different.
ReplyDeleteI think that keeping the idea napkin relatively the same really helps to develop the product or service you are promoting, I did the same. Personality traits being included in your idea napkin can help a lot, when someone sees multiple resumes a day sometimes the person will be more drawn to one because of their being something that makes them feel like they have a similarity to you. Your personality and how you think about yourself and your service can effect the amount of positive responses you get from people so including this makes a lot of difference.
