26A – Celebrating Failure
So I am sure I have had other failures that were probably a
bigger deal this semester, but so much has happened that I honestly can’t remember. But, one failure that I
recently had was actually in this class about 3 weeks ago ish. I had done my
assignments early and was super excited because I didn’t have any work to do on Friday, I turned them in on
Thursday and that was that. Then, about a week later I find out that I didn’t declare it the assignments even
though I turned in the links, a total no-brainer move and I am honestly not
sure why I did it. As a result, I missed out on four points. What I have
learned from this is to not get too excited for the weekend, but to also always
double check whether or not you have turned something in. I think with this
class, since we have so many assignments to turn in, by the end of the semester
you start to trust that you submitted what you had to because it becomes a
habit. Now I know to always double check myself and I have been doing it in
other
Failure has always been something that I have tried to
avoid. I am a perfectionist at heart so sometimes I get upset when I fail,
however I believe it is a necessary process because it is not something you can
get away from. Also, some of what I believe have been my biggest
accomplishments have come out of failing. With this class, I think it tries to
teach you this concept, that good things can come out of failure and it is
something I have noticed. For example, with the varying interviews we have to
do, sometimes when you reach out to people they wont want to talk to you, and
that form of failure teaches you persistence to keep moving on to the next
interview. This kind of persistence is needed to create a start-up, and is the
kind of mentality that I think this class breeds.
I can absolutely relate to the frustration that you must have felt because earlier in the semester I did everything for an assignment except for submitting the link to it. It's truly hard to deal with putting in the time to accomplish something and then suffering because of an oversight or a technicality. These types of mistakes do, however, teach a valuable lesson.
